A Sustainable Living Exhibition – The Lincolnshire Show, 24th & 25th June 2009

Sustainable Living Exhibition - The Lincolnshire Show

With visitors totalling close to 70,000, the Lincolnshire Show, commencing on the 24th of June 2009 and ending the following day, will provide a real chance for businesses and attendees alike to explore the possibilities and benefits of sustainable living. Indeed, Ecoswitch will itself be attending and exhibiting.

Around 70 exhibitions will provide information and services relating to sustainable living, giving voice to practical and interesting ways that ordinary people can bring sustainability and the environment into their everyday lives.

Sustainable Living Personified – The Lincolnshire EPIC Centre

So as to match in deeds what the event symbolises in words, the event will be held in the Lincolnshire Show’s own EPIC centre, built with the concept of sustainable living in mind. Its list of environmentally features and designs is an impressive one:

  • Minimal use of concrete and structural steel
  • Ground bearing raft foundations using reclaimed concrete
  • Laminated timber frame
  • Living green roof over the exhibition halls
  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Natural ventilation systems
  • Renewable energy features including biomass & bio-fuel boilers, solar water heating & photovoltaic panels and wind energy

What is certain, then, is that the event will bring together a comprehensive eco-friendly experience for those who attend, with the building itself reflecting in ethos the overall message of the event, and those who will exhibit at the event.

A Chance to Explore and Understand the Benefits of the Sustainability Movement

Sustainable living is not only ethical and environmentally-friendly; there are economic benefits. At current, there is a growing movement in the UK for renewable energy suppliers to enter mainstream energy consumption, as green energy prices continue to fall and conventional electricity continues to rise in cost.

The practical application of sustainability, too, will be discussed at the exhibitions, helping dispel the myth that a move to a sustainable, eco-friendly lifestyle, is at odds with an efficient or busy lifestyle.

Certainly, then, the event should be a real hit. Perhaps the final words on this years Lincolnshire Show should be left to the curators of the show themselves:

“For a second year, the new eco building that is the EPIC Centre will be the base for this large exhibition, which gives businesses with an ethos aligned to that of the EPIC Centre, an opportunity to engage with the 65,000 visitors that are expected attend the Lincolnshire Show. The exhibition is a ‘show within a show’ and will be open on both days of the Lincolnshire Show; Wednesday 24th and Thursday 25th June 2009…The building will be the focal point for this 125th Show, as it commands attention at the heart of the showground. The building will also be officially opened by HRH Princess Anne during the Show, so red ribbons and clicking cameras will not be far away!”
