Transportation of the Future

With disgustingly high prices of gasoline hitting Americans’ wallets hard, sales of SUVs and four wheel drive vehicles are at an all time low. However, electric bikes are making their mark as a fun, clean alternative to conventional transportation.

Optibike is the only electric bike manufactured in volume. This month the company has expanded into a 13,000 square foot facility in Boulder, Colorado in order to accommodate 230% increase in production.

The bikes are designed perfectly to fit America’s fast paced market. The CEO and designer of Optibike, Jim Turner says they are, “sleek, stylish and very powerful-These elements are very important in America where customers want to be able to travel long distances and have enough power to climb a steep hill with confidence.”

But I wouldn’t encourage an Optibike owner to go head to head in a race – the top speed of one of the bikes is 35 mph. The bike can be used as exercise or as a full powered electrical bike. It is patented and powered by Motorized Bottom Bracket, and contains the largest lithium battery on the market. The bikes range in price, from $4995 to $12995, depending on the amount of customization involved in production. Most states don’t enforce the need for insurance, registration or a license for an Optibike, but you should check with your local government agency to be sure.
