Eastern Europe?

I read a piece about Romania- Transylvania- in the broadsheets. The travel writer who went there really loved it, and due to the long communist rule the place is generally undeveloped- there’s still horse and carts, etc. Although perhaps this isn’t so good for the local people economically, it means that it’s an eco-friendly trip in many ways, because there’s no Starbucks, for instance, but instead mainly locally sourced and produced food. Plus there aren’t many cars, as the roadways mainly consist of mud tracks, so there’s less fossil-fuel burning transport that might raise your carbon footprint.
Very cheap as well. And great for kids, for the ”space, the outdoors, the suggestion of exciting wildlife close to hand and room for imagination.”
The article itself explains why it’s so eco, and the travel writer really can’t get enough of the place. I found the article online, so have a look.

Hello Environmental Friends!

Hello friends.
My name is Nick, and I break my time between Paris and London, but mainly London these days, where I live with my girlfriend, and work as a product designer- I also teach product design.
I first came into green lifestyles through green design, when I worked as a graphic designer, and then even moreso with product design. I unleashed a real passion for working with re-used materials, for a variety of reasons both aesthetic and to do with ideology.
I look forward to discussing green stuff with you all. |

Cool- Live UK/GB grid-electricity carbon-intensity monitor

Found this online. Someone’s put a lot of time and energy into this!
It works for anywhere on mainland Britain. This is really amazing work.
The creator says :
‘It shows live (using data from National Grid’s servers) the approximate carbon-intensity of each kWh/unit of energy consumed.
The upshot is that if you run loads such as your washing machine or dishwasher at night then you may save as much as 30% or more of the carbon emissions in generating the electricity to power them. Same job done, less emissions.’

What’s growing in your garden?

What have you got in your beds? Anything you’re particularly proud of?
I grew some waxy ‘yellow’ potatoes (they’re actually red) after reading about them, they’re the rolls royce of potatoes. But mine didn’t come out too well, and I felt scared to eat them. |

A company I came across based in the North East of England- I also posted this in the ‘home’ section of this forum. If you’re a business, ‘we can offer specialist renewable energy advice and consultancy, with up to 60% funding if you are in the ONE North East region.’
‘Complete heat pump, solar and underfloor heating solutions from design and consultancy through to install and aftercare.’
