Charging for waste given up
Posted at: 2009-09-28 15:22:28
Yeah, the introduction of food waste bins seems to me to be the first step towards somehing else- I’d guess that there’ll be some further measures, eg smaller bin bags given out for household waste, or fewer collection dates.

Scottish B&Bs (eco)

Wow. Scotland is stunning!
I think adventure holidays combined with ‘eco’ B&Bs are great, really getting involved with nature, seeing our impact upon the wilderness, even down to an oar striking the water. Really eye opening, not to mention exhilerating.

Plus with a B&B you’re forced to leave your room more, spend your time in the big natural living room that is the great outdoors!

National cycle trains

Just be careful about any smaller trains that you get on after the big stations like Manchester, if you’re going to continue your journey north. But, like I said, they should all have a bike policy listed on the national rail website.
National cycle trains

Well, Virgin Trains allow bikes on their trains from London-Manchester.
They have seperate cars with space for four bikes, or two tandems. You have to reserve your space in advance though, in case it gets full, but it’s free (their number is 08457 222 333).

Found this from the National Rail website. If you search for a train journey on nationalrail.co.uk, it’ll tell you whether your desired journey has a cycle policy and what it is.

Hope this helps some. Tony

Best green appliances

It might not really count as an appliance, but I’d really love to be the owner of a Mini E. A fully electric Mini car! Apparently it does 0-60 in under nine seconds, which aint bad ;)

How much is geothermal energy used?
Posted at: 2009-06-29 17:59:59
Is this a widespread phenomenon, or is it only in its infancy as a power and energy source?
I’ve not seen or heard much about this form of energy to be honest. Neither have I encountered much publicity on the topic.
Is there much opposition to it from landowners and residents? And how much energy is garnered from geothermal sources that we, the public, and industry use,?
