It’s worth bearing in mind also that with some scooters, if not all of them, the lower the battery charge is the lower the top speed will be. So if you’re running on a low charge the speed might be decreased from its maximum.
Currys- Free Electronic Recycling

Just saw an advert on the tube. Currys are doing free recycling at their stores for electronic items. Worth checking out.
£20 bin from Waltham Forest Council

I think a lot of local English councils do subsidised compost bins. Check down at the local recycling centre because they often sell them there.

I saw these in the shops. They’re washable, apparently they last for 400 washes or something. Waitrose was the shop I saw them in.
WWF Footprint Calculator

Thanks for sharing the link! A useful tool, although I must say, quite a vague outcome, as the questions it asks aren’t very specific at all.
Handy for a rough outline of your footprint, though. Cheers again

Well, I think that in some ways long haul flights aren’t as frowned upon by many as short haul. I think this is because they’re more infrequent (partly due to the cost) and, also, long haul flights are the ones that enable you to get to developing countries and distant eco-systems where you might want to lend a helping hand or try to make a positive difference to the area.

True eco-tourism, where you actively engage and involve yourself in this way, sort of balances out the long-haul flight because of the long-term change you are helping to bring about.
At least, this is what I gather to be the general opinion surrounding such things. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong!
I’m undecided about long-haul eco-tours, mainly because of a lack of knowledge about flight and air travel- i.e. I don’t know whether it can be integrated with a sustainable world *at all*. I can’t really imagine international air travel being abolished though any time soon so I think that using long-haul flights infrequently, working around existing timetables and not increasing the need for more timetables and scheduled flights means that people travel more ’responsibly’, and, one can hope, people might travel mainly for positive reasons..?

How much are you saving?

(not strictly a reply to your question about *green energy*, but still a good sign of the energy saving nature of eco-friendlier appliances!)

Well, I got a new fridge freezer earlier this year, as my other one was pretty old and innefficient. I did my research and the new one’s great, really energy efficient. I used the website tc2.org.uk to work out the energy I was saving by the switch, and it came out as 233kWh a year! :)
Like I say, my old one was pretty bulky and inefficient, but at just over 10 years old, one wouldn’t have thought it would be as rubbish at using energy as it was!
Speeds

Well I’d agree, but still, there is a point at which you would like to just add a bit of oomph to your speed when travelling on a slow moped. At least I’ve felt that sometimes.

I think a compromise on the top speed is good. Because really slow bikes are just frustrating..
