Slow food
Posted at: 2009-09-30 00:48:35
It’s a not-for-profit organisation, founded by Carlo Petrini, in Italy, in 1989. The initial aim was to combat fast food culture.

It’s stated aim is to encourage people to think of themselves as ’coproducers’ rather than consumers. It tries to foster sustainable agriculture , and to preserve eco-regions, complete with their cultural dishes, animals, seeds, and food plants.

I found all this out at http://www.slowfood.org.uk/Cms/Page/home

Can Profits Be Made From Eco Investments?
Posted at: 2009-09-05 14:08:46
’Mostly, analysts have a wait-and-see approach to climate change’s impact on profitability’
— what these analysts fail to see, is that the world is going this way, and companies that go against the green grain will not only be financially worse off in the future, but will also be out of place in a new world.

Some of these financial people are so short sighted.

Do you live near wind turbines?
Posted at: 2009-08-27 16:27:26
I stayed with friends who live in Whitstable, Kent, where a farm of turbines sits out in the ocean. They love it, and find it very beautiful. I did too. The sense of scale of the sky and ocean are really brought out through these structures, which I would describe more as statues or monoliths.
Rechargeable batteries!

GP ReCyko+. £6.80 for 4 AA batteries. Last for 6.5 hours on a charge as well, according to reviews. Great price too!

Think they sell them at Amazon as well as other places.

What are your outdoor interests?

I’d love to walk in Norway. I saw a documentary about the place, it seems that the glaciers are more intact than, say, the alps, where they’ve melted somewhat? There was this guy talking romantically about the feeling of ice and snow.

It’d be so significant to be amongst those massive natural forms, the one’s that *make up* the environment that we’re all talking about.

Don’t forget to write your will on recycled paper.. Or an electronic will! They seem to be able to do it in Tennesse, USA– jamesmartinpa.com/electronicwill.html
Artists.. Paint recycling

I think a lot of people just store their paint for further use or for donations to others.

A lot of community recycling groups offer paint recycling and re-use schemes.

Laptop Charging
Posted at: 2009-07-15 16:13:31
I think hibernating your laptop is fine. Some models call it ’eco-mode’. I don’t think any energy is used while it is in this state.

But, I’m unsure whether much energy is used when the laptop is plugged in and full of battery. I use my laptop in this way, too. Using the laptop unplugged, running the battery down, and then charging it again, just wasteful to me, even if it’s not.

I’d welcome some good technical advice on this subject.
