Another tip, is to iron your damp cotton shirts* straight from the wash (after you’ve wrung them), as this will help to get the fabric really flat. It’s almost impossible to get thick cotton things flat if you’re ironing when dry. This way, ironing when damp/wet, they end up crisp and flat as a pancake, and the ironing process also dries them quite a bit. This means that they wont take long to dry on a hanger- just a little time to get rid of the last little bits of moisture that the iron didn’t kill- therefore saving you space to hang up the rest of your clothes, and making hand-washing generally more viable.
Oh, and don’t use the steam setting on your iron when ironing damp things!
